The Government has announced measures to help motorists in the South West cut the cost of running a car by freezing MOT prices, cracking down on whiplash fraud and announcing a new scheme that will reduce the cost of fuel at motorway service stations.
Prospective MP, Michael Tomlinson, said that the move would clamp down on people who cheat the insurance system, forcing up the price for everyone else.
He said, “This means from next year whiplash fraudsters will be targeted by new independent medical panels making it much harder to cheat the system.”
The Government is also freezing the maximum prices of an MOT test for a car until 2015 and trialling new road signs comparing motorway fuel prices at different service stations.
Michael Tomlinson said, “This is going to make a huge difference to motorists locally. It will help hardworking people by tackling high insurance premiums and bearing down on some of the key costs of running a car – which in Dorset is vital.
“Too often the price at the pumps in the region can vary hugely over a short distance. This will help drivers choose the cheapest deals and encourage competitive pricing.”
