Speaking in the chamber during Thursday's Business of the House of Commons, Michael highlighted the threat to the green belt in Wimborne, Corfe Mullen and Merely & Bearwood as well as Purbeck and called for an urgent debate to see how the green belt can be better protected.
Michael's request was met warmly by The Rt Hon Chris Grayling MP who acknowledged the importance of this issue and suggested that a debate on the green belt would be one that many members would wish to speak in.
Michael said 'I have called for an urgent debate as the green belt is under threat right across Mid Dorset & North Poole. I have campaigned to protect the green belt before I became an MP and I want to continue that campaign and raise the concerns of so many residents.
‘A number of residents have contacted me about sites in Corfe Mullen, Wimborne and Merley, which is why I specifically raised those cases in the House of Commons.
‘Local people are rightly concerned that our precious green belt will be sacrificed for more development. The need for new homes is clear, but I want to see brown field sites used instead.'
