Michael was honoured to have been invited to go to Hong Kong with the All Party Parliamentary China Group (APPCG). This group was established in 1997 to widen the parliamentary contribution to the UK-China bilateral relationship.
The visit involved a group of MPs and Peers from different parties visiting Hong Kong to develop intra-parliamentary links. During their stay they had meetings with a variety of different Hong Kong government departments, including discussions about trade links and opportunities for British students in Hong Kong. They met the President of the Legislative Council, and discussed the ‘1 Country 2 Systems’ governance of the territory.
The MPs had the opportunity to meet the British Chambers of Trade and commerce in Hong Kong, to foster links, and to discuss changes that have occurred since the handover in 1997.
Michael also visited a Charitable trust "Po Leung Kuk" which educates and cares for orphans and children without stable homes, and a local primary school.
Michael said "I was delighted to have had the opportunity to visit Hong Kong, and learn about its varied economy. I particularly enjoyed the chance to chat to local schoolchildren about their interest in STEM subjects, and hear some amazing music from the pupils"
