Michael has welcomed today's news that the UK is joining the world’s largest research collaboration programme
The Prime Minister has secured a bespoke deal for the UK, with improved financial terms for our participation. This means that UK researchers can apply for grants and bid to take part in projects under the Horizon programme, with certainty that the UK will be participating as a fully associated member for the remaining life of the programme to 2027.
British companies will benefit from thousands of new jobs, collaboration on technologies such as artificial intelligence and nuclear fusion and access to Copernicus, the European Earth Observation Programme. This will not only open up cooperation with the EU, but also Norway, New Zealand and Israel which are part of the programme – and countries like Korea and Canada which are looking to join too.

"A number of constituents had raised concerns with me that the UK were being excluded from this collaboration, and I am delighted that the Prime Minister has secured such a good deal for the UK. I know that many businesses, organisations and charities like cancer research are also welcoming this news."
