I am campaigning for fairer funding for schools in Poole and Dorset. Yesterday I attended the first meeting of this Parliament of the f40 group, which represents the local authorities with historically low funding for education. Pictured here with Vice Chairman of f40 Robin Walker MP and MP Jo Churchill. Fairer funding for education in Dorset was part of my positive campaign to become Member of Parliament for Mid Dorset and North Poole. Since the election, I have already been contacted by a number of local schools and I want to ensure that the issue of fairer funding remains at the forefront of our minds and is a priority for this Government. There was a down payment of £3.2 million for Poole and £3.1 million for Dorset at the end of the last Parliament; this was part of an overall package of 390m additional funding. That was a welcome step in the right direction, but I will be fighting for a fairer funding formula to correct a longstanding injustice. I will contact the Secretary of State for Education, congratulating her on her reappointment to the position and seeking her reassurance that this issue will remain a priority for this Government.
