Michael welcomes the announcement of a broadband Universal Service Obligation (USO) that will help ensure good quality broadband for even the hardest to reach places. The USO will give everyone a legal right to request an affordable broadband connection with appropriate speed.
Michael, who is the Vice Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group for Broadband, is pleased with the announcement, saying "this is welcome news from the Government as it will help ensure that residents in hard to connect areas will not be left behind. This is important as it shows that many people now see broadband as a similarly important service as post and telephone."
The USO will take around two years to implement. The first step is a public consultation in early 2016.
