Michael Tomlinson supports apprenticeships in Dorset.
The subject of apprenticeship funding was discussed by MPs in a debate in parliament. Local Member of Parliament, Michael Tomlinson spoke in support of apprenticeships and highlighted the good work being done in Dorset to support and recruit apprentices.
Increasing the number of apprenticeships is a key aim for the Government. Michael Tomlinson, who is the Chairman of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Youth Employment, backs apprenticeships as a vital method of providing opportunity for young people in Dorset.
Michael said “The debate on apprenticeships is important as they provide great opportunities for our young people to gain both employment and skills. They are also vitally important for many of our local businesses. I was pleased to speak in support of apprentices and local businesses who run apprenticeship schemes.”
Michael highlighted the work of TestLink and the PME Group as good examples of local businesses who support apprentices and also praised the work of Ian Girling and the Dorset Chamber of Commerce and Industry who run a Young Chamber that helps link schools and employers.

Michael spoke of the drop in youth unemployment and how the Government’s proposed Apprenticeship Levy offered local businesses real support when hiring young people.
