Mid Dorset & North Poole MP, Michael Tomlinson, met recently with the Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt to discuss the proposed changes to hospitals in Dorset.
Michael told the Secretary of State of the need to ensure that the proposals were in the best interests of local residents and that any proposals should be made on the recommendation from experts and any changes would lead to an improvement in patient safety in Dorset.
He said “As someone who has used Poole Hospital regularly over the past 10 years and more, I want to see what is in the best interests of all of us living close to Poole Hospital; and to ensure that patient safety is first and foremost. I was pleased to be able to raise these points with Jeremy Hunt and ensure that the concerns of local residents who have contacted me about this issue, are heard at the very top of Government.”
No decisions have yet been made and a period of public consultation will take place before any final decision. Michael added “There is still a long way to go before any changes are approved. In the meantime, I will continue to meet Ministers, local hospital representatives and key local stakeholders to find out more about how these proposals will impact services in Dorset.”
