The Chancellor announced this week that the National Living Wage will increase to £9.50 an hour, making sure work pays as we create a high-skill, high-wage economy.
As we move beyond the pandemic, we are committed to creating a high-skill, high-wage economy and making sure everyone gets the pay they deserve.
That is why we have announced that all workers above 23 on the National Living Wage will receive a 6.6 per cent pay increase from April next year to £9.50 an hour, with those on the National Minimum Wage also receiving increases to £9.18 for 21 – 22 year olds, £6.83 for 18 – 20 year olds, and £4.81 for those under 18.
This increase will make those working full time over £1,000 better off per year – supporting younger and lower income workers as our economy rebounds from the pandemic – and we are on track to meet our ambitious target to end low pay by the end of this Parliament.
