Michael has welcomed the announced by Dorset and BCP councils that hosts of Ukrainian refugees here under the Homes for Ukraine will get additional funding over the winter.
All hosts receive £350 from the Government, and BCP and Dorset Councils have pledged to pay an extra £250 per month to hosts of Ukrainian refugees for six months. This payment will be made automatically.
There is additional funding available for those who need it - using the Homes for Ukraine funding from the government, up to £1,000 may be given per host household – this is with two payments made on a case-by-case in November and February.
Cllr Laura Beddow, Dorset Council Portfolio Holder for Culture, Communities and Customer Services said:
“We are pleased to announce this additional support which will enable local hosts to cover their increased cost of living while continuing to provide a safe haven to those Ukrainian refugees who have fled from the horrors of war.
“The council continues to work closely with residents, voluntary and community groups and partner authorities to ensure both hosts and Ukrainian guests receive the support they need.”
Michael Tomlinson said:
“I’m really pleased that this additional support is being made available. I know both our local councils have been working hard to provide support to refugees and hosts, and this shows the level of commitment we have in this area.”
