The Boundary Commission have now published the final boundaries which will be used for the next General Election. Constituency boundaries are reviewed regularly, to ensure that constituencies are all roughly a similar size, with a similar number of constituents. Mid Dorset and North Poole had fewer constituents than all the other constituencies in Dorset, so it is getting bigger.
There have been several public consultations, and Michael is pleased that the Boundary Commission have listened to the views of local residents. The name of the constituency will stay the same, and it retains the village of Bere Regis and its surrounding area. This reflects the close community ties of the Red Post parishes.
The Stour & Allen Vale ward North of Wimborne comes into the constituency, as does an area South of Wareham covering Arne. Most of the other wards stay the same. There will be around 74,300 constituents in the new area, which is an increase of around 10,000 people.

I want to thank everyone who contributed to the Boundary Commission consultation. It is clear from their report that they took the views of local people into account. In particular keeping the name Mid Dorset and North Poole, and keeping Bere Regis in the constituency are a direct result of people sharing their views.
